The Chevy Suburban is better than ever. The 2021 is all-new with several significant changes to keep it one of the best large SUVs on the market. The latest version has a new independent rear suspension, which gives it more room in the cargo area and adds extra legroom for the third row. The latest generation Suburban is also longer than before, and it has more technology both inside and out.
The Engines and Performance
The standard engine for all Suburban trim levels is a 5.3-liter V-8 gas engine. It develops 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. An optional 6.2-liter V-8 for the High Country will get you 420 horsepower. This engine has a feature that automatically deactivates cylinders to help save fuel, and it also has a stop-start system. The Suburban also offers a 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder with 277 horsepower. All of the engines work with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available for every model.
The Trim Levels
The LS is the entry-level Suburban. It comes with 18-inch wheels and LED headlights. The LT adds a hands-free liftgate, and the RST trim adds 22-inch wheels, black exterior trim elements, and unique features to the front fascia. The off-road-focused Z71 trim has higher ground clearance up front, all-terrain tires, and it comes with front skid plates and tow hooks. Choose the Premier for magnetically controlled shocks, or the High Country for a unique grille with bronze accent pieces.
Chevy offers lots of options for all trims, including a panoramic sunroof. You can also get an air suspension that raises or lowers the height of the Suburban as needed, and add the Max Trailering System if you need to do any towing.
The Technology Features
All of the 2021 Suburban models start with a 10.2-inch touch-screen display, Chevy’s infotainment system that will work with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo. The LT adds a 9-speaker Bose stereo and a wireless phone charger, while the Premier upgrades to a 10-speaker stereo system.
Safety technology includes a rearview camera, a forward-collision mitigation system, and automatic braking in all trims. Bumping up to the Premier will get you lane-keeping assist and a blind-spot monitor, and if you choose the High Country, it comes with a rear pedestrian alert system, a surround-view camera, and a head-up display.
The Spacious Cabin
The Suburban has room for up to nine passengers in its three rows of seats. All trims have power-adjustable front seats and premium cloth upholstery. The LT adds leather upholstery, memory for the driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The RST adds to the look in the cabin with special seats that feature contrasting stitching, and the Premier drops the seating capacity to seven by switching to second-row captain’s chairs. This high-end trim also adds heat and ventilation to the front seats.
The 2021 Chevy Suburban is bigger than before, and it has more technology and added safety features. It’s the ultimate vehicle for large families.
